At its meeting on April 19, 2024, City Council approved a program to allow alcohol drinking in parks.

Please visit toronto.ca/alcoholinparks for more information on the Alcohol in Parks Program, including the rules for the program and list of designated parks.

What are the Rules?

Alcohol drinking is allowed in parks approved by City Council, between the hours of 5:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m., daily.

Alcohol drinking is not allowed in the following areas of designated parks:
  • within the boundary of an outdoor swimming pool or deck; or
  • within the boundary of and a 2 metre radius surrounding a:
    • playground safety surface or playground equipment;
    • wading pool basin or splash pad; or
    • skateboard or BMX park; or,
    • a natural or artificial outdoor ice rink

The program does not change the legal drinking age or prohibition on public intoxication. These issues are regulated by the Province under the Liquor Licence and Control Act.

The program does not change how alcohol is sold or served in Toronto parks. Information on the permits you need to sell or serve alcohol in a Toronto park is available on the City website.

All park events where alcohol will be sold or served to the public still require a City of Toronto Special Event permit and a permit/license from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
