Next week, Toronto City Council will consider next steps to deliver the Bridletowne Neighbourhood Centre, a long-standing, city-building initiative and partnership with the YMCA of Greater Toronto and United Way Greater Toronto. The proposed development will deliver much-needed community space, programs and services to residents in the Finch-Warden, Steeles-L’Amoreaux and Bridletowne area.
For more than a decade, the City of Toronto has supported the development of a multi-service community hub on City-owned lands at 1355 Bridletowne Cir. Since acquiring the property in 2011, the City has been collaborating with partners to advance a vision for a community-serving facility in an area with significant need for social, recreational and community infrastructure.
Recommendations before City Council seek to reaffirm the City’s commitment to the project, including the transfer of 5.2 acres of the property to the YMCA of Greater Toronto and direction for staff to assess other city-building development opportunities on the same lot, such as seniors’ services and long-term care.
If approved by City Council, these recommendations will advance an updated vision for the Bridletowne Neighbourhood Centre that continues to deliver significant community benefits.
