News Release
June 29, 2026

Today, Mayor Olivia Chow visited campers at Parkway Forest Community Centre to check out the fun on the first official day of the City of Toronto’s CampTO summer recreation program and join the children for one of the best parts of the day — snack time.

This summer, up to 115,000 children attending CampTO will receive a free, nutritious mid-morning snack, helping keep campers fuelled throughout the day. Building on the success of last year’s pilot and to support families, the City has expanded its nutritious snack program to improve food security and help with the rising cost of living — supported by a $500,000 investment in the 2026 Operating Budget to bring the CampTO Nutrition Program to all summer camp locations.

Running from late June through the end of August, CampTO offers a wide range of recreation experiences for children and youth ages four to 16 in neighbourhoods across Toronto. Campers can stay active, learn new skills, build friendships, and create memories in safe, welcoming and inclusive programs.

“Every child deserves a great summer. When children have access to healthy food, they can learn, play and engage. That’s why I’m proud that every child enrolled in the City’s CampTO programs will receive a free, nutritious snack this summer. By investing in free recreation and nutritious food, we’re helping families with the cost of living while making sure every child has a fair opportunity to participate, stay energized and enjoy everything CampTO has to offer.”
