The City of Toronto has officially launched the 43rd annual Toronto Employment Survey – a citywide study that gathers information about business activity and employment across Toronto. The survey, running until Friday, August 29, will include in-person visits to more than 73,000 businesses across the city.
Since 1983, the Toronto Employment Survey has been a key tool for tracking economic change and guiding investment across Toronto. The data helps the City monitor employment trends, land use and economic activity, and supports planning decisions for infrastructure, transit, water and social services.
Results from the survey will be published in the annual Toronto Employment Bulletin which is used by the City to inform future planning and policy.
This year’s survey includes a new question to better understand the potential impacts of international trade disruptions, such as tariffs. Businesses in affected sectors may also receive a postcard directing them to a supplementary survey and available City support services.
Surveyors will be wearing City badges and blue “City Planning” polo shirts for identification. Participation is voluntary and businesses have the option to respond in person, schedule a call back or complete the survey online. All information collected is confidential and only released in aggregate form to show citywide and neighbourhood-level trends.
More information about the Toronto Employment Survey is available on the City’s website.
