Transit riders at TTC Spadina Station can expect to be overwhelmed by cuteness, thanks to a joint campaign launched by City of Toronto’s Toronto Animal Services, the TTC and Pet Valu to promote the benefits of pet adoption and responsible pet ownership.

Running now until Thursday, June 15, images of adorable cats, dogs, guinea pigs and rabbits will be featured on digital billboards, vinyl wraps and platform murals at high vantage points throughout the station. Each animal has been named after a TTC subway station and has a profile that matches the neighbouring community. There is Jane, a two-year old Bernese Mountain dog who loves late night runs on Bloor West, Clair the guinea pig who loves strutting her stuff to salsa and 10 other pets featured in the campaign. The animals reflect the diversity of pets Toronto Animal Services has for adoption and highlights the benefits of different species of pets as well as their needs.

Toronto Animal Services currently has 20 animals available for adoption, but this number changes daily as animals are adopted and new pets are surrendered or brought in as strays. People are encouraged to check the City’s Adopt a Pet webpage at www.toronto.ca/AdoptAPet as new animals are posted for adoption regularly.

The City encourages anyone who is interested in adopting a pet to research what care is needed and the commitment involved and to consider how well the pet would fit with their current lifestyle. People who are interested in adopting a pet from Toronto Animal Services can call 416-338-PAWS between 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to schedule an appointment for a meet and greet.

Potential adopters are required to fill out a short screening application to ensure their household and lifestyle is a suitable match for the pet. All adoptable pets are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered and have received a comprehensive medical examination. More information about fees and the adoption process is available on the City’s Pet Adoption webpage.

This campaign was made possible thanks to an in-kind donation from the TTC, Astral and Pet Valu.

“This campaign is a perfect example of City partners working together to promote responsible pet adoption and ownership. I am grateful to the TTC for sponsoring this campaign that will help the loving and deserving pets in Toronto Animal Services shelters find their forever homes.”

“We are thrilled to offer an eye-catching and impactful campaign to promote responsible pet ownership. Our 16,000 TTC employees are the unsung heroes that keep this city moving, just as the team at Toronto Animal Services are the unsung heroes for pets in need of loving homes.”
