The City of Toronto, in collaboration with the Indigenous Land Stewardship Circle, will hold the annual traditional and prescribed burn (Biinaakzigewok Anishnaabeg) tomorrow in High Park and Lambton Park to help protect and restore rare black oak savannah and woodland habitats.

LocationHigh Park, Grenadier Café parking lot (200 Parkside Dr.), inside High Park

Media access notes 

Media vehicles may enter and exit the park between 9:15 a.m. and 1 p.m. using the Parkside Drive and High Park Boulevard entrance. Drivers will need to travel along Centre Road to access Grenadier Café parking lot. Colborne Lodge Drive and West Road are closed to vehicles for the day.  

Members of the media must show their credentials for entry, have hazard lights flashing while driving through the park and not exceed a speed of 10 km/h.    Media vehicles must remain parked at the Grenadier Café or the High Park Zoo parking lot during ignition of the burn. Drones are not permitted over the burn sites. 

A ceremony and smudge led by Indigenous Elder Vivian Recollet will take place before the briefing. No photographs or filming will be permitted during this time to respect the sacredness of the opening ceremony and smudge.
