September 21, 2022

Please note: this media advisory has been updated since it was originally shared with a new in-person location.

Continuing a long-standing tradition of supporting community through philanthropy, the City of Toronto will hold a kickoff event for its annual United Way Employee Campaign today, Thursday, September 22. This year’s event will be in hybrid format; in-person at the City Hall Council Chamber and via virtual stream.

Date: Thursday, September 22, 2022
Time: Noon to 1 p.m.
Location: City Hall Council Chamber, 100 Queen St. W., or via WebEx virtual stream.

The City is a strong and long-standing partner of the United Way’s, with thousands of City employees coming together to raise more than $1 million annually to help ensure the community remains strong and vibrant. This year’s theme – “One City, One Team, One Campaign” – is made possible through collaboration with City agencies and corporations.

The need for the City’s 2022 United Way Employee Campaign is more important than ever as the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the most vulnerable members of the community. This year’s campaign will focus on supporting residents through pandemic recovery and leading change by fighting against inequality.

The United Way Employee Campaign, which is jointly led by the City’s unions, associations and management, receives strong support from CUPE Local 79, CUPE Local 416, the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters’ Association (TPFFA), Toronto Public Library Workers Union CUPE Local 4948, CUPE Local 2998 and COTAPSA, as well as City agencies and corporations including the Toronto Public Library, Toronto Zoo, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, Toronto Parking Authority and Exhibition Place. For the second time this year, the City is also collaborating with CreateTO, Toronto Police Services, Toronto Hydro Corporation, Toronto Transit Commission and Toronto Community Housing Corporation.
