Councillor Chris Moise (Toronto Centre), members of Dr. Gordon Chong’s family, past and present City of Toronto staff and public officials will come together tomorrow to re-name 60 Howard Street Park (near Bloor Street East and Parliament Street) in memory and honour of the late Dr. Gordon Chong.

Dr. Gordon Chong, a founding member of the Federation of Chinese Canadian professionals, was first elected as Alderman of the former Ward 6 in downtown Toronto. Dr. Chong’s political career spanned decades and included a seat on Metropolitan Toronto Council as well as two terms as Councillor representing a North York ward in the newly-amalgamated City of Toronto.

Dr. Chong also served on various boards and committees including the Toronto Transit Commission, GoTransit, Metropolitan Toronto Housing Authority, Social Housing Services Corporation, Toronto Police Services Board and the Greater Toronto Services Board. In 2012, he was recognized for his public service by receiving the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal awarded by the Office of the Governor General of Canada.
