Councillor Brad Bradford (Beaches-East York) was joined by residents and City of Toronto staff to commemorate the 50th anniversary of True Davidson Acres long-term care home. One of 10 City-operated long-term care homes, it was opened in 1973 and currently houses 187 residents.
At today’s celebration, residents and guests were treated to live music and an opportunity to have their image captured by a caricature artist. A commemorative plaque marking the anniversary was also unveiled and a tree was planted in honour of the occasion.
True Davidson Acres Long-Term Care Home was named in honour of Jean Gertrude “True” Davidson, a former Mayor of East York who was a dedicated and energetic advocate for seniors. Located on Dawes Road, the home was built on a hill overlooking Taylor Creek Park. Architect Jerome Markson received the 1977 Design Excellence Award by the Ontario Association of Architects for the building’s unique design and effective use of landscape.
The home was renovated in 2005 with features that support resident comfort, well-being and privacy. The home features warm colours, comfortable furnishings and 10 resident home areas that are each equipped with a dining room, living room and recreation spaces.
