Volunteer program
- Approximately 3,000 volunteers will be recruited by FIFA26 Canada and the City of Toronto to support Toronto’s role as a Host City.
- Volunteers will support fan experiences, accessibility services, media operations, event logistics and more. This includes FIFA Fan Festival™ support and serving as Host City Ambassadors outside stadiums, airports, transit hubs and visitor sites.
- Volunteers will gain valuable training, skills and connections, as well as recognition for their contributions to this once-in-a-lifetime event.
FIFA World Cup 26™ Volunteer Centre
- Located at Humber Polytechnic’s Lakeshore Campus, G Cottage, 17 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Dr.
- The Volunteer Centre will be the central location for recruitment, training, accrediting and outfitting volunteers.
- Approximately 350 volunteers will form Toronto’s “Starting Line-Up.” These are volunteers who will support the recruitment phase by bringing the Volunteer Centres to life and guiding candidates through their journey.
- More than 387,000 volunteer applications were received for Canada, with around 248,000 for Toronto.
- Activities at the centre include:
- Volunteer Tryouts: recruitment experience for candidates (November to December)
- Role-specific training (April 2026)
- Uniform and accreditation distribution (May to June 2026)
Humber Polytechnic Partnership & FIFA World Cup 26™ Volunteer Centre
- The City of Toronto has partnered with Humber Polytechnic as an Official Toronto World Cup 2026™ Host City Supporter.
- Humber will help manage the local delivery of Toronto’s FIFA World Cup 26™ volunteer program including recruitment, training, scheduling and recognition of Host City volunteers.
- The FIFA World Cup 26™ Volunteer Centre – Toronto is located at Humber’s Lakeshore Campus (G Cottage) and will serve as the hub for volunteer activities.
- This partnership draws on Humber’s expertise in event and sport management, its diverse student body and strong community connections to ensure a high-quality volunteer program that reflects Toronto’s diversity and spirit.
FIFA World Cup 26™
Toronto will host six FIFA World Cup 26™ matches, kicking off on Friday, June 12, 2026, with the first-ever men’s FIFA World Cup match on Canadian soil, featuring Canada’s Men’s National Team. Toronto is also hosting a round of 32 match on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
In December 2024, FIFA released an economic impact assessment, prepared by Deloitte Canada, estimating that FIFA World Cup 26™ could generate up to $940 million in positive economic output for the Greater Toronto Area. This includes a projected $520 million in GDP growth, $340 million in labor income and $25 million in government revenue. The tournament is also expected to create more than 6,600 jobs between June 2023 and August 2026, providing a substantial boost to the region’s economy.
