Today, the Mayor of Toronto presented the Key to the City to Kyle Lowry in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to Toronto, both on the basketball court and in the community.
The presentation took place during Kyle’s Block Party, a free event organized by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment at Maple Leaf Square – also known as “Jurassic Park” – to celebrate Lowry’s remarkable Toronto Raptors career and special connection with fans.
Lowry joined the Raptors in 2012 and became the heart of the team during his nine seasons in Toronto. A six-time NBA All-Star, he holds franchise records for assists, steals and three-point field goals. In 2019, his leadership helped bring Toronto its first NBA Championship, uniting the city and country in celebration.
Beyond basketball, Lowry and his family have supported youth and families across Toronto through the Lowry Love Foundation. Earlier this summer, he signed a ceremonial one-day contract to officially retire as a Toronto Raptor. His No. 7 will be raised to the rafters at Scotiabank Arena on January 10, 2027.

The Mayor awards the Key to the City to inspiring individuals from diverse backgrounds who embody the spirit and potential of Toronto, and who have contributed significantly to civic life. The Key to the City is Toronto’s highest honour granted by the Mayor to an individual or a group.
