On January 6, the City of Toronto began vaccinating eligible residents with fourth dose boosters of COVID-19 vaccine in the City’s 10 directly-operated long-term care (LTC) homes. To date, more than 90 per cent have received a fourth dose and clinics will continue their efforts as more residents become eligible and are vaccinated in all 10 LTC homes.
Fourth doses are being administered to eligible LTC residents to strengthen immune response, which begins to wane in older adults 10 to 14 weeks after the third dose. As an added layer of protection against COVID-19 and its variants, the City has received 220 High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters from the Province of Ontario which will be installed before the end of the week. The HEPA filters will improve air filtration and mitigate virus transmission risk in all City-run LTC homes.
Team Toronto continues to offer a multitude of vaccination opportunities for Toronto residents in need of a first, second or third dose. Yesterday, more than 4,000 new appointments were added at City-run clinics for January 30 and 31, which can be scheduled by calling 1-833-943-3900 or through the online provincial booking system.
Toronto Public Health reminds residents that the COVID-19 Omicron variant continues to spread, creating an urgent need for those eligible to receive a third dose of vaccine to get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible. Any residents who have not yet received their first or second dose of COVID-19 vaccine are also encouraged to do so as soon as possible. COVID-19 vaccines lower the risk of serious illness, hospitalization and death, while protecting oneself, loved ones and the community.
Today, Team Toronto partners will administer thousands of vaccines at City-run clinics, hospital partner clinics, more than 525 local pharmacies and doctors’ offices, including the following clinic locations:
City-run immunization clinics
The five City-run immunization clinics continue to add new appointments for first, second and third doses of COVID-19 vaccine. To book an appointment, click the blue “Book a Vaccine” button or call 1-833-943-3900. City-run clinics are easily accessible by transit and offer free parking on site. Clinic staff are also able to provide resources in multiple languages. A person with a vaccination appointment can also bring a support person to help with translation.
While City-run clinics and health care partners across the province await further shipments of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine later this month, all City of Toronto-run clinics will administer the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to residents 30 years of age and older.
