Today, Toronto Fire Services Chief Jim Jessop and City of Toronto officials welcomed 109 new frontline staff, including 105 Operations Firefighters and four Telecommunicators during a graduation ceremony held at the Toronto Fire and Paramedic Services Training Centre.

Operations Firefighters mitigate fires and respond to thousands of medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous materials incidents and other emergencies that occur across Toronto daily. The 105 recruits graduated from an intensive, 18-week training program with the National Fire Protection Association and received their professional qualifications as Operations Firefighters, Fire Prevention Inspectors and Public Educators.

Telecommunicators make quick, high-pressure decisions that protect the public and first responders during an emergency. These calm and professional voices are the first point of contact for residents in need of emergency services. The four graduates will assume the important tasks of answering and processing emergency calls, dispatching TFS resources and personnel to emergencies and supporting first responders behind the scenes. The recruits graduated from an eight-week training program and have received National Fire Protection Association professional qualifications as Public Safety Telecommunications Personnel.

TFS is the largest fire service in Canada, providing Toronto residents, visitors and businesses with a suite of world-class fire protection services that includes public education, fire prevention, Ontario Fire Code enforcement and all hazards emergency response.
