News Release
July 27, 2022

Toronto Fire Services is working with Safetek Emergency Vehicles Ltd. and the REV Group Inc. to design and acquire two fully electric fire pumper trucks. When delivered, Toronto Fire Services will be the first fire department in Canada to have fully electric, North American-style fire pumper trucks in their fleet.

The electric pumper trucks, known as the VectorTM, represent the latest in green, energy-efficient technology for the daily use of fire services. Equipped with 316 kilowatts (kW) of proven automotive-grade batteries, these trucks will deliver the longest electric pumping duration in the industry, enabling Toronto Fire Services crews to drive and pump almost exclusively on electrically generated power.

In addition to meeting the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1901 – Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus, the VectorTM battery storage solution allows for a complete NFPA compliant pump test. Operationally, these fire trucks are very similar to the existing fleet, eliminating the need for specialized training and making them almost immediately operational once delivered.

With these new additions to the fleet having low to zero carbon emissions, Toronto Fire Services will further support the TransformTO plan to be achieved by 2030 with this addition to their fleet. TransformTO plan can be found at www.toronto.ca/services-payments/water-environment/environmentally-friendly-city-initiatives/transformto/.

Toronto Fire Services is looking forward to working with the dealer, Safetek Emergency Vehicles Ltd., and the REV Group Inc. on the next phase of the design and acquisition of these revolutionary fire trucks.
