The City is reviewing its nighttime waste collection program, where collections occur between 9 p.m. and 6:45 a.m., to determine if a re-alignment of collection days would be beneficial for City customers and operations.
We are looking for feedback on current waste collection experiences, the impact of collection on nighttime activities on commercial main streets and preferences for alternative collection nights.
Potentially impacted businesses and residents are invited to participate in the public consultation by completing the survey or attending a virtual public meeting:
Share your thoughts on potential changes to the nighttime waste collection schedules by completing the online survey by Monday, October 27, 2025.
Two virtual public meetings will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025. The same information will be presented at each meeting. Register to attend using the links below.
Feedback from consultations, as well as technical, financial, operational considerations and policy guidelines will be used to determine the feasibility of making changes to collection schedules. If feasible, changes to collection schedules on commercial main streets would be implemented in spring 2026.
Any changes to nighttime collection will not impact businesses or residents currently using private waste management services.
The City will conduct a wider solid waste management operational review beginning in fall/winter 2025. The City will work with the relevant partners to assess and determine additional operational changes following the wider operational review.
Changes to the Blue Bin program (Extended Producer Responsibility) are coming January 1, 2026. For more information, visit Changes to the Blue Bin (Recycling) Program.
In April 2025, City Council requested consideration of changing the night of waste collection for parts of the west end (Ossington Avenue/Queen Street West/Dundas Street West and College Street areas), to support the current and future operations of CaféTO and the overall nightlife experience on these commercial main streets.
Expanding on this request and as part of a wider operational review, the City is including all customers with waste currently collected at night as part of this consultation to determine if a re-alignment of collection days would be beneficial for City customers and operations.
