Residents with damaged garbage bins, Blue Bins (recycling) and/or Green Bins (organics) can request for the City to repair the bins.

If you would like to to add another bin, upsize/downsize a Blue Bin or garbage bin or remove a bin, you will need to use a different form.

When to Request a Repair

  • You live in a house or an apartment above a business.
  • You receive waste collection from the City.
  • Your garbage bin, Blue Bin and/or Green Bin is damaged or has graffiti.

How to Request a Repair

  1. Make sure you have the following information ready before submitting a service request:
    • Full name
    • Email address
    • Phone number
    • Address
    • Bin serial number (located on the front of the bin). When submitting the service request, ensure the serial number shown in the form matches the serial number on the bin you have. If the serial number does not match, submit a report for a missing garbage bin, Blue Bin or Green Bin. Examples of serial numbers:
      • Garbage bin: #65G######
      • Blue Bin: #35R######
      • Green Bin: #26O######
    • Exact location of where the bin will be placed on your property for repair (must be accessible and visible from the street)
The front of a Green Bin and garbage bin showing where the serial code is located.
  2. Choose the right service request:
  3. Get your bin ready.
    • Place your bin on your property where it is accessible and visible from the street for the repair. (Do not place the bin in your backyard, behind a gated fence, etc.)
    • Your bin can be placed at the curb on your usual collection day. Once emptied, your bin should be placed back on your property.
    • If you have laneway collection, place your bin at the front of your property for repair.

What to Expect

  • Most bins are repaired within five business days.
  • There will be two attempts to repair your bin. If staff cannot locate your bin on the first attempt, they will leave a notice and a second attempt will be made within five business days.
  • If your bin has not been repaired or replaced after the two attempts have been completed, please submit another service request.
  • If your waste was unable to be collected due to bin damage, submit a residential missed pick-up or apartment above business missed pick-up service request.
  • There is no cost for bin repair.

As of January 1, 2026, the City will no longer be responsible for recycling collection and related services, including Blue Bin repairs. Learn more about changes to the Blue Bin program.
