The process below describes the actions taken and notices sent to collect unpaid automated speed enforcement penalties, unless there is a pending request to review your penalty order initiated through the dispute process.
You have 30 days from the date of issue of your penalty order or initiate a dispute.
If your violation is unpaid and if no review has been initiated, you will be issued a Notice of Overdue Penalty Order.
A late payment fee of $20 will be added to the amount owing and the matter will be referred for collection to the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) for plate denial. Your Ontario licence plate will not be automatically renewed, and no new licence plates will be issued to you until the penalty and all fees are paid in full.
At this point, payments can only be accepted at Service Ontario Locations and you may be unable to renew your licence plate. Lookup your penalty order online to view the current status and where your penalty order can be paid.
If you have completed a screening or hearing review concerning your Penalty Order, the decision document will show the payable amount due by a requested due date. If a payment plan is in effect, the payment plan will outline the payment details and due dates.
If amount is not paid by due date, late payment fees may be applied to amount owing.
