The City of Toronto received a request from The Queensway Steering Committee to conduct a public consultation meeting to discuss the potential for a BIA for The Queensway in the area of Royal York Road and Kipling Avenue. A BIA is a self-funded association of commercial property owners and business tenants created to improve the local business environment.
Wednesday, February 1, 2012
7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Church on the Queensway - 1536 The Queensway
This meeting will provide members of the business community within the proposed BIA to comment and ask questions on what BIAs can do, how they operate, and how they are funded.
Commercial property owners and business tenants will also have an opportunity to VOTE on whether to proceed to the formal polling stage.
Proof of Commercial/Industrial Property and or Business ownership is required. Please bring photo ID and either a business card, utility bill showing business name and address, or your City of Toronto property tax bill. Please forward a copy of this notice to your Commercial/Industrial tenants.
Background information:
After a series of open house meetings in March 2011 along with door to door canvassing, the Steering Committee has determined that there is sufficient interest in working with the City to consider a proposal for a Queensway BIA. The Committee identified that there are potential benefits by working collectively as a BIA, and that the local businesses and property owners would have the organizational and funding capacity to enhance the business climate and quality of life in their local neighbourhood. This would include the development of a Branding and Marketing Strategy, opportunities for advertising, using Social Media as well as various streetscape enhancements.
