Fleet Safety
Fleet Services oversees the licensing and training for over 13,000 City drivers. The City of Toronto has its own driver's permit that each City driver/operator must obtain before operating a City vehicle.
The process of obtaining this permit is similar to the Province's licensing program. To obtain a City permit, an applicant must pass a written test, visual examination and road test, as well as have his or her Ontario driver's licence checked for offences.
Safety training is also a key Fleet service. When space is available, other municipalities are welcome to sign up their staff to take our training for a fee.
Environment
Toronto Fleet Services is an environmental leader among Canadian fleets. We are exploring many new technologies and practices in order to reduce fuel use and pollutant emissions.
We are currently implementing the Green Fleet Plan 2008-2011, which guides our environmental efforts. However, Fleet Services’ green initiatives started with the Green Fleet Transition Plan 2004-2007.
