| What is Outdoors: The Ultimate Playground? |
Outdoors: The Ultimate Playground is a physical activity resource developed by Toronto Public Health in consultation with community agencies, childcare centres and physical activity experts.
Children all over the world have one thing in common, they love to play! Children enjoy hopping, skipping, jumping, catching, chasing and hiding. The benefits of physical activity go beyond fun.
Adopting an active lifestyle at a young age can decrease the chances of developing heart problems, hypertension, osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes and cancer. Regular physical activity, strengths bones, builds muscle, works the heart and contributes to a healthy body weight and lifestyle.
The Games and Skills Chart provides what is needed to play the game and the skills children will develop. The games and activities encourage children to be physically active throughout the year.
Ability Adaptation Guidelines provide suggestions on how to change the games to suit the child's ability.
Be Creative - Make Your Own Stuff! provides directions on how to make your own playground equipment.
