The City of Toronto has approximately 30,000 full and part-time employees. Legal Services Employment and Labour Law team offers a full range of employment and management-side labour law services to the City regarding its role as an employer.
Our lawyers deal with issues arising from collective agreements between the City of Toronto and two major unions. CUPE Local 416 represents approximately 6,500 outside workers, as well as 2,300 library workers. CUPE Local 79 represents approximately 20,000 workers, and is the largest municipal local in Canada. In addition, our lawyers represent and provide legal advice to the City in matters involving other employees. The result of working with such a large and diverse work force is a fast-paced and dynamic law practice.
