The garden is open all the time and is free. The Franklin Children’s Garden is approximately four acres and includes the following:
Pine Grove
In Pine Grove, children are able to visit and have their photos taken with Franklin and his friend Bear. Canadian sculptor Ruth Abernethy created child-accessible bronze sculptures of Franklin and Bear in this special pine grove garden. Look for Franklin's many other friends – Beaver, Goose, Snail and Rabbit – situated throughout the garden.
Hide and Seek Garden
At the centre of this playful area is a wheelchair-accessible treehouse which offers elements that children seek in their play – refuge, height and physical challenges. In addition, there is a vine tunnel and bronze sculptures of Franklin and Rabbit.
Kids Can Press Little Sprouts Garden
What's a garden without a little dirt? The Kids Can Press Little Sprouts Garden provides hands-on gardening for little and big gardeners alike, where they can touch, smell and taste plants. Children learn to plant, cultivate and harvest vegetables and flowers.
TD Storybook Place
This section of the Franklin's Children's Garden is a setting for storytelling and performing arts outdoors to children in a unique amphitheatre setting.
Turtle Pond
Water is one of the most popular features of outdoor playing for children. Turtle Pond adds excitement to any child's visit as they get to observe turtles, frogs, birds and other critters in a wetland environment.
Unilever Snail Trail
The Unilever Snail Trail is a key lookout point to see the wetland wonders of Turtle Pond. Children delight as they explore its winding trail and flower-filled meadow of plants alive with butterflies and other critters.
The garden was designed by Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation, landscaping architecture firms Janet Rosenberg + Associates, and Schollen & Company Inc. The contractor was Oriole Landscaping: Landscape Design and Construction.
