Riverdale Farm is a Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division facility located in a park setting in the heart of the downtown community, Cabbagetown. Admission is free. Parking on neighbouring city streets only.
Tour the Farm's scenic 7.5 acres along pathways through wooded areas, around ponds, and into butterfly-herb-flower-vegetable gardens. Cows, horses, donkey, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, rabbits, and farm cats may be seen along the way in the barns and outdoor paddocks.
Chat with the farmer during daily chores that include animal hay feedings, egg collection, cow milking (daily at 1030am), goat milking, horse grooming, mucking out the stalls-pens-paddocks, and laying straw beds.
Visit the Simpson House wood-fired brick oven on Tuesday mornings to watch volunteers preparing and baking bread. Enjoy hot and cold refreshments and homemade goodies at the Farm Kitchen. The Shop at the Farm (416-961-8787) carries fine gifts, books, decorations, handicrafts, toys, cards, preserves, paintings, sculptures, soap, and many more keepsake items. Shop at the FRF Farmers' Market every Tuesday (May to Oct, 3:00pm to 7:00pm).
During the Winter-Spring-Fall months, drop into the Meeting House preschoolers' playroom to enjoy books, puzzles, farm toys and play barn. Participate in the many programs and seasonal events (listed in the Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation FUN Guide for Tor-EY District
Volunteer with the Community Advisory Council, Animal Management Committee, Buildings & Grounds Committee, Newsletter Committee, Garden Club, Seasonal Events, Programs, and/or Friends of Riverdale Farm (market, kitchen, shop, outdoor wood-fired oven).
Host your child's (1-8 yrs) birthday party in the Meeting House. Permit facility space in the Residence for your meetings or workshops. Please call 416-392-8188 to permit picnic tables located outside Farm's west gate in Riverdale Park West.
Sorry - dogs, bicycles, in-line skates, foot scooters, ride toys, and vehicles are not permitted on the Farm's property.
Please do not feed the farm animals, poultry, and waterfowl as hand feeding can encourage aggressive behaviour and discourage consumption of their controlled nutritional feed.
