History of the site
Located in Ward 21 (St. Paul's), Wychwood Car Barns Park is situated east of Christie Street, west of Wychwood Avenue, south of Benson Avenue, and at the north end of Slade Avenue. The existing Wychwood Car Barns site measures 1.8 hectares (4.3 acres). Five former TTC maintenance barns, built between 1913 and 1921 occupy 53,000 square feet or approximately 30 per cent of the site. The future park will occupy the rest of the site, measuring approximately 1.3 hectares (3.1 acres).

The TTC used the site and barns until 1985, at one time accommodating as many as 167 streetcars that served 10 routes, and provided employment for hundreds of workers.
Ownership of the site and the barns was transferred to the City of Toronto in 1998.
