Eglinton Avenue will see significant improvements to public transit service over the next decade. Metrolinx is investing $8.4 billion in the design and construction of rapid transit in Toronto, including the Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown line. This map shows the location of the Crosstown line that runs along Eglinton Avenue from Jane Street to Kennedy Road, and then connects with a refurbished Scarborough RT line to McCowan Station. The Crosstown line is scheduled to be completed and operational by 2020. For additional information, please visit the Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown website.

Opportunities and challenges
The construction of the Crosstown line will significantly improve mobility and transportation options for Torontonians and it will bring a number of planning opportunities and challenges that need to be addressed. During the next two years, the City of Toronto will undertake a comprehensive planning study of the Eglinton Avenue corridor. The study is being led by City Planning staff and will be completed with the financial support of Metrolinx, the regional transportation planning agency of the Province of Ontario.
Good city planning involves the coordination of urban development and transportation infrastructure through appropriate policies and planning tools that balance social, economic and environmental concerns.
Community engagement
City Planning will engage with residents, businesses, community groups and other stakeholders over the next two years to create a vision to guide future growth and development along the Eglinton Avenue corridor. Throughout the study period, City Planning will be leading several planning initiatives along the corridor, including a land use analysis, built form analysis, public realm vision, heritage assessment, and transportation surveys. Each of these components will inform the development of updated planning policies for the corridor. Public consultations will occur at key points throughout the study, and staff will engage with the community in a number of different ways to receive input on the study.
