"Thank You Toronto Day"
January 31, 2000
| WHEREAS: |
Thank You Toronto Day provides the film, television and commercial
industry with an opportunity to show appreciation for the ongoing support
and co-operation of the people and businesses of our great City involved
in the many on-location film shoots; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
each year, through the efforts of the Thank You Toronto/Ontario campaign,
funds are raised within the film, television and commercial industry and
donated to communities that have welcomed location crews into their
neighbourhoods. This year the industry raised close to $100,000 with
monies distributed to a wide variety of social programs in our great City;
and

| WHEREAS: |
this year's Thank You campaign also includes a billboard program and
Saturday Morning at the Movies, a pilot program offering community groups
free tickets for special screenings for children under 12 years of age; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
Toronto is one of the leading film, television and commercial production
centres in North America. In 1999 more than 5,000 street permits were
issued and 1.2 billion dollars were spent by production companies in
Toronto. Film and television shows are shot throughout the entire Toronto
area and this campaign recognizes the good nature and assistance of the
people and businesses most affected in our many distinctive, vibrant
communities and our exceptionally charming neighbourhoods; and

| WHEREAS: |
through the Thank You campaign, the Toronto Film and Television Office,
The Ontario Film Development Corporation, the industry and its members,
express their gratitude to the communities, neighbourhoods and businesses
in Toronto.

| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the more than
2.3 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim January 31, 2000
as "Thank You Toronto Day" and join the Televison and Film community
in thanking the people of our great City for their goodwill and co-operation.
