"Gold Heart Month"
February, 2000
| WHEREAS: |
in celebration of its 10th anniversary, Variety - The Children's Charity has declared 2000 as the Year of the Child; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
the message for the 2000 campaign is "Give Your Heart to a Child"; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
the Gold Heart campaign was created by the Variety Club of Great Britain as a fundraising event to help Variety's special children; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
this annual event has become international in scope with countries around the world holding their own Gold Heart campaigns; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
for a minimum $3 donation, thousands of Canadians will receive an attractive Gold Heart pin which bears the face of a child. Many dedicated volunteers, retailers, Famous Players Theatres and beer stores will be distributing the pin in an effort to raise $125,000 for Variety's kids; and
|
| WHEREAS: |
proceeds from the Gold Heart campaign will help Variety fund programs and facilities for children with special physical, emotional, social and economic needs.

| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the more than 2.3 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim February 2000 as "Gold Heart Month" in the City of Toronto, and urge everyone to support this very worthy and vital fundraising effort to help Variety's special children.
