"Youth Week"

May 6 – 12, 2000

WHEREAS: the week of May 6 -12, 2000 has been designated "Youth Week" in the City of Toronto and around the world; and
WHEREAS: during the week, numerous events and displays will be held throughout the City to celebrate the achievements and contributions that youth make to our communities; and
WHEREAS: community participation in the many entertaining, challenging events and activities provides an excellent opportunity for all of us to celebrate and develop a greater understanding and acceptance of youth; and
WHEREAS: youth are our most treasured resource and through their volunteerism and contribution to charitable works and other worthy causes, we are assured that our communities will continue to grow and flourish.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.4 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim May 6-12, 2000 as "Youth Week" in the City of Toronto. Young people play an important role in our lives and I encourage them to dedicate themselves towards the development and well-being of our City.
