amateur baseball, like most sports, makes a significant contribution to the social and economic fabric of our community; and
WHEREAS:
it develops discipline, teamwork, physical strength and stamina and earns many young competitors the feeling of accomplishment; and
WHEREAS:
it also provides our youth with physical activity that promotes a healthy lifestyle; and
WHEREAS:
it provides an outlet for young people to channel their energies productively and positively.
NOW,
THEREFORE:
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim August 2003 as "Amateur Baseball Month", in the City of Toronto.
