"ArtsWeek"

| WHEREAS: |
the arts are vital to Toronto's cultural atmosphere and a unifying force in our City; and |
| WHEREAS: |
Arts Toronto in partnership with Toronto Arts Council Foundation will showcase this year's festivities with over 500 events including the ArtsWeek Launch, The Protégé Honours Gala and All Candidates Forum on the Arts; and |
| WHEREAS: |
now in its 17th year, ArtsWeek is the largest multi-disciplinary, neighbourhood based festival of its kind in Canada; and |
| WHEREAS: |
this nine day celebration provides a unique occasion for the people of Toronto and visitors alike to explore our City's rich and culturally diverse arts community offered by arts organizations and hundred of artists for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike. |

| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim September 20 - 28, 2003 as "ArtsWeek", to recognize and celebrate the excellence and talent of artists and performers who keep Toronto fresh and vibrant. I encourage everyone to become more aware of the wide range, quality and quantity of the arts in their communities. |
