"Beta Sigma Phi Week"

April 21 - 25, 2003

WHEREAS: Beta Sigma Phi signifies Life, Learning and Friendship and with approximately 250,000 members in 12,500 chapters in 30 countries around the world many of them are in the Toronto area; and
WHEREAS: this year marks the 72nd anniversary of Beta Sigma Phi in the Greater Toronto Area. The first chapter that was formed in our Scarborough community is celebrating its 40th anniversary and many of its original members are still active and working together; and
WHEREAS: members work for many charitable, health and cultural agencies, hold fund-raising events and generously donate their time and efforts to provide assistance and help make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim April 21 - 25, 2003 as "Beta Sigma Phi Week" in the City of Toronto to recognize the valuable service and outstanding contributions all Beta Sigma Phi members make to the success and vitality of our community.
