"Big Brothers and Big Sisters Month"

September 2003

WHEREAS: for many years, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto have operated separately and as an amalgamated agency, providing young boys and girls with guidance, support and companionship. To date, the agency has matched more than 125,000 boys and girls with a Big Brother or a Big Sister; and
WHEREAS: these young boys and girls, who face challenges, reap tremendous value from the influence of a positive mentor. Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto rely heavily on the strength and dedication of volunteers who, through their commitment and support, make it possible to provide this invaluable service; and
WHEREAS: this year's goal is to recruit 300 new Big Brothers and Big Sisters across the City of Toronto, to participate in various Big Brothers and Big Sisters Programs.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim September 2003 as "Big Brothers and Big Sisters Month" and encourage the men and women of Toronto to become involved with this very worthwhile organization.

[Signed Mayor Mel Lastman]
