"Blue Jays Day in Toronto"

March 31, 2003

WHEREAS: our Toronto Blue Jays have returned to their home town this spring to represent our City and our country in the American Baseball League, supported by the cheering and encouragement of their enthusiastic fans; and
WHEREAS: most Canadians feel passionate about baseball, and season after season this team never fails to provide exciting entertainment to their fans, showing that the Baseball North spirit is truly alive in Toronto; and
WHEREAS: the Blue Jays logo is known throughout baseball and represents a successful team whose players are dedicated to discipline, concentration, commitment and teamwork; and
WHEREAS: we are extremely proud of the Jays, who have won two World Series, and whose spirit, compassion and caring to the community represent all that is good about our City and Canada.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council do hereby proclaim March 31, 2003 as "Blue Jays Day in Toronto" and encourage our 2.5 million residents to wear something blue on this day to show support for the Toronto Blue Jays in the upcoming season. Let's go Blue Jays!
