"BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING Month"

September 2003

WHEREAS: since 1992, this national event has helped promote awareness of the important link between nutrition and learning, and increased support for child nutrition programs in our community; and
WHEREAS: to ensure that children go to school well-nourished and ready to learn, these nutrition programs are accessible to every child regardless of the ability to pay; and
WHEREAS: in the Greater Toronto Area there are 330 nutrition programs, attended by over 60,000 children and supported by funding from BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING; and
WHEREAS: these programs are created and sustained by dedicated and resourceful volunteers who give so generously of their time to shop, cook and serve meals that make a difference in our children's lives every school day.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim September 2003 as "BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING Month" and encourage everyone to support this important cause and recognize the impact of good nutrition on a child's ability to learn.
