"Day of Mourning"
April 28, 2003
| WHEREAS: |
this annual Day of Mourning commemorates the sacrifices made by workers who have been killed, injured or disabled on the job during the past year, and their families; and |
| WHEREAS: |
statistics concerning workplace deaths and injuries are alarming, but the human cost is harder to bear. Unfortunately, deaths in the workplace are increasing and hundreds of thousands of people in Ontario have been injured on the job; and |
| WHEREAS: |
this annual Day of Mourning is an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the goal of making our workplace safer, which is something we can only achieve by working together. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim April 28, 2003 as "Day of Mourning" in the City of Toronto, in remembrance of those workers who have been killed, injured or disabled at their place of work. |
[Signed Mayor Mel Lastman]
