"Emergency Nurses Week"

"Emergency Nurses Day"

October 8, 2003

WHEREAS: this year's theme "We Make a Difference…Starting with You!" symbolizes the impact emergency nurses have on the lives of their patients and our community; and
WHEREAS: emergency nurses are exceptional individuals committed to excellence in quality patient care, and who went above and beyond their normal job duties to assist the people of Toronto during the SARS outbreak; and
WHEREAS: emergency nurses demonstrate their professionalism, concern and compassion and continually strive to upgrade standards of practice and improve services to patients in our large and culturally diverse City; and
WHEREAS: emergency nurses endeavour to educate the public in the prevention and treatment of injury and illness and the effective and proper use of emergency services.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim October 5-11, 2003 as "Emergency Nurses Week" and October 8, 2003 as "Emergency Nurses Day" to recognize the tremendous contribution emergency nurses make in caring for our friends, families and loved ones. You are the light that leads the way in emergency health and hospital care.
