"Florina Week"

May 25 - 31, 2003

WHEREAS: the City of Florina in Northern Greece and the former City of Scarborough established a fraternal and cultural association in 1983; and
WHEREAS: this association recognizes the large number of citizens of Florina and Greece, now residents of the City of Toronto, who contribute to the mosaic, success and vitality of our community; and
WHEREAS: their tremendous contributions are recognized and supported through this exciting annual event, which provide the community with an opportunity to share and celebrate this rich heritage and culture; and
WHEREAS: this week begins with the 20th annual Scarborough-Florina Fraternization Festival on Sunday, May 25, 2003 and provides an opportunity to reflect on so many accomplishments during the past twenty years.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim May 25 - 31, 2003 as "Florina Week" and encourage all residents to participate in this exciting cultural event and celebrate the outstanding contributions made to our great City.
