"Foster Family Week"

October 19 - 25, 2003

WHEREAS: Foster families play an essential role in the absence of a child's parent/parents; and
WHEREAS: through understanding, patience, care and the provision of a stable and loving environment, foster parents guide and nurture children in an effort to give them an opportunity at success in life; and
WHEREAS: young people are resilient and able to overcome tremendous obstacles because of the nurturing, acceptance and support provided by foster parents; and
WHEREAS: the Children's Aid Society of Toronto has served over 24,200 children and just over 9,000 families - an accomplishment that could not have been achieved without the assistance of the 370 foster families involved.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim October 19 - 25, 2003 as "Foster Family Week" in the City of Toronto in recognition of the essential and irreplaceable care provided by Foster Parents.

[Signed Mayor Mel Lastman]
