"Genie Awards Day"

| WHEREAS: |
the Genie Awards are recognized within the film industry, both nationally and internationally, as one of the most prominent and prestigious accolades to be bestowed on an individual. This import and much anticipated event continues to attract visitors and viewers from across Canada, focusing attenion from afar on our great City of Toronto; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the Genie Awards acknowledge and celebrate the past year in Canadian cinema, distributing awards to those who have been recognized by their peers for their excellence in all area in cinema, including special awards for unique individual contributions. All these awards recognize the level of professionalism and quality that our many deserving Canadians demonstrate on a daily basis; and |
| WHEREAS: |
Toronto is the third largest entertainment centre in North America. Our city provides filmmakers with an entire range of facilities from mass pre-production to mass post-production. The output, input and, of course, the quality, is constantly increasing and growing stronger with each passing year. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim February 13, 2003 as "Genie Awards Day" and congratulate the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, as well as everyone involved in this tremendously successful event. |
