"Highland Creek Heritage Day"
June 14, 2003
| WHEREAS: |
the Village of Highland Creek dates back to the late 1790's and is the site of one of the earliest settlements in our Scarborough community; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the Village remains the only area still identifiable as a village, and evidence of historical significance includes W.J. Morrish General Store, Miller Lash/McLean Estate and the third Highland Creek Public school located on Military Trial and a route leading from Toronto to Kingston; and |
| WHEREAS: |
once a year, since 1986, the residents of the area have been gathering to mark the existence of the Village and celebrate its history with great pride. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim June 14, 2003 as "Highland Creek Heritage Day" and encourage everyone to celebrate this historic occasion with the Highland Creek community, family and friends and enjoy the parade and other fun activities and events that are planned for the day. |
