"Hispanic Day"

September 28, 2003

WHEREAS: in Toronto, we encourage and welcome events that promote and preserve the heritage and customs of our many cultural groups which are enjoyed and celebrated in our diverse City; and
WHEREAS: Hispanic Day is a wonderful occasion for our Latin American communities to showcase, celebrate and share their rich and varied culture and traditions with residents of Toronto and visitors to our great City; and
WHEREAS: a highlight of this special event is the Hispanic Day Parade, which starts from the Yorkgate Mall at Jane Street and Finch Avenue and ends at the Downsview Arena for a two-day celebration of great performances, music, dancing, food and other fun activities; and
WHEREAS: Hispanic Day is an opportunity for people of all ages, from different backgrounds and walks of life to come together with family and friends to experience this lively and captivating culture.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim September 28, 2003 as "Hispanic Day" and encourage everyone to join in this exciting and colourful celebration that showcases our Latin American communities.
