"Jazz Week"

June 20 - 29, 2003

WHEREAS: the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival is the premier musical event of the summer season and one of the most successful festivals in North America; and
WHEREAS: now in its 17th year, this much-anticipated event is a world-class Festival that encompasses every style of jazz, showcases more than 1,5000 talented international musicians at more than 40 venues throughout Toronto, and attracts more than 700,000 visitors from across Canada, North America and around the world to our great City; and
WHEREAS: for ten exciting days, our hearts are touched and our lives enriched as Toronto comes alive with the sound of jazz music. This Festival enhances our City's fabulous music scene, contributres to the cultural, social and economic success of Toronto and adds to our reputation as a truly world-class and vibrant City.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim June 20 - 29, 2003 as "Jazz Week" and encourage everyone to participate in and celebrate this enjoyable musical event of cool sounds and warm nights.
