"Kids Day International"

May 17, 2003

WHEREAS: the health and well-being of children are our responsibility, and we must never ignore, forget or overlook our obligation to provide them with the basic necessities of life; and
WHEREAS: the safety of our children is a significant concern for parents, community leaders and health care givers and it is our fundamental responsibility to care for, nurture and prtotect them; and
WHEREAS: environmental welfare is of universal concern and deserves the utmost attention; and
WHEREAS: this year's event will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Canada and Variety Village; and
WHEREAS: if started in childhood, proper health, safety and environmental habits can be maintained for a lifetime, producing valued members of society and enhancing our community.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim May 17, 2003 as "Kids Day International" and encourage all residents to increase their awareness of the importance of health, safety and environmental issues affecting our children and our community.
