"Liver Disease Month"
March 2003
| WHEREAS: |
founded in 1969, the Canadian Liver Foundation was the first organization in the world devoted exclusively to providing support for research and education into hepatitis and other forms of liver disease; and |
| WHEREAS: |
liver disease is the fourth leading cause of death by disease in Canada striking men, women and children indiscriminately, and more than 2 million Canadians will suffer from some form of this disease in their lifetime; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the mandate of the Canadian Liver Foundation is to reduce the incidence and impact of all liver diseases and has over 30 chapters across the country that provide on-going support for liver disease patients and their families; and |
| WHEREAS: |
Canadian researchers have been recognized internationally for their breakthroughs in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of liver disease and through its research grant program, the Foundation has been able to provide much-needed funding to liver specialists across the country. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim March 2003 as "Liver Disease Month" to recognize the commitment of Canadian Liver Foundation volunteers, staff, donors, researchers, sponsors and government partners, and encourage all residents in the City of Toronto to learn more about liver health. |
