"Neighbours' Night Out"

June 17, 2003

WHEREAS: Toronto is a City of communities. It is the energy and enthusiasm of people who live in these communities and take pride in their neighbourhoods, that make our City a lively and vibrant place to live, work and play; and
WHEREAS: Neighbours' Night Out provides an opportunity for neigbhours and community groups to have a fun night, get to know each other better and build community spirit; and
WHEREAS: the people of Toronto are encouraged to come out to meet and greet their neighbours and others in the community to help make our City a more friendly and safer place for everyone; and
WHEREAS: by banding together in the spirit of celebration and fun, the people of our great City can strengthen their sense of community, help discourage crime and contribute to the safety of their neighbourhoods.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim June 17, 2003 as "Neighbours' Night Out" and encourage all residents of Toronto to participate in this worthwhile community event.
