"Noise Awareness Day"

April 30, 2003

WHEREAS: in order to promote hearing health, The Hearing Foundation of Canada is organizing the promotion and education of the impact of noise pollution on Canadians for one day; and
WHEREAS: members of the community are encouraged to take action to prevent hearing loss and to help fund medical research into hearing loss; and
WHEREAS: The Hearing Foundation of Canada is the only national charitable organization funding medical research into the cause, intervention, prevention and cure of hearing loss; and
WHEREAS: The Hearing Foundation of Canada has established an important medical granting program to invest in leading edge research to help open the door to improved techniques for detection and treatment of hearing loss in our community.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim April 30, 2003 as "Noise Awareness Day" in the City of Toronto and encourage everyone to take action to protect their hearing and support The Hearing Foundation of Canada during their annual event.
