"Nurses Day"

May 14, 2003

WHEREAS: the health and well-being of people is the biggest priority for our community; and
WHEREAS: in the City of Toronto, nurses are an integral part of our health care system, serving residents of all ages with skill, knowledge, caring and commitment; and
WHEREAS: Toronto's nurses have been and continue to be the unsung heroes, putting their own health on the line to help end the SARS crisis; and
WHEREAS: members of the national nursing community are observing May 12-18 as Nursing Week, and in the City of Toronto May 14, 2003, has been designated "Nurses Day" to acknowledge and promote the contributions of nurses in our community.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim May 14, 2003 as "Nurses Day" in the City of Toronto, and encourage everyone to recognize the many services provided by our dedicated nurses and the tremendous contribution they make to the health of our residents and the well-being of our community every day.
