"Organ & Tissue Awareness Week"
April 21 - 28, 2003
| WHEREAS: |
Step by Step is a non profit charitable organization that is dedicated to promoting the importance of organ and tissue donations; and |
| WHEREAS: |
there are almost 4,000 Canadian men, women and children presently awaiting life saving organ/tissue transplants; and |
| WHEREAS: |
Canada is rated the #1 country in the field of organ transplant with outstanding medical facilities and top surgeons; and |
| WHEREAS: |
the 769-day walk by liver transplant recipient, George Marcello, increased public awareness and the importance of organ donation; and |
| WHEREAS: |
only through education and awareness can an individual make a tremendous contribution of The Gift of Life by donating their organ/tissue. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim April 21 - 28, 2003 as "Organ & Tissue Awareness Week", and would encourage everyone to make the decision to donate their organ/tissue(s) and to discuss their wishes with family members. |
