"PEI Day"

July 28, 2003

WHEREAS: the City of Toronto extends appreciation to the people of Prince Edward Island who donated 20,000 pounds of premium mussels to our seafood restaurants during the recent SARS outbreak; and
WHEREAS: the beautiful island of PEI is a province with heart and its people, businesses and government have demonstrated that time and time again without Toronto asking for assistance; and
WHEREAS: your generous gesture will not be forgotten and has only enhanced the close ties and friendship that exist between the residents of Toronto and PEI.
NOW,
THEREFORE: I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim July 28, 2003 as "PEI Day" to recognize your province's kindness to our City and to let you know that there will always be a special place in our hearts and in our City for the people of PEI.

[Signed Mayor Mel Lastman]
