"Psychiatric Survivor Pride Day"
July 14, 2003
| WHEREAS: |
mental health affects people from all countries, societies, individuals of all ages, women and men, at some time during lives; and |
| WHEREAS: |
emotional trauma is a profound human fear that has an economic impact on societies and on the quality of life of individuals and families; and |
| WHEREAS: |
organizations and community agencies are committed to raising public awareness through education and support services in the fight against discrimination, injustice and human rights in order to empower and improve the quality of life for psychiatric survivors; and |
| WHEREAS: |
we must all be committed to the values of acceptance, self-determination, respect of individuality and strongly believe in the intrinsic worth and dignity of every human being. |
| NOW, |
| THEREFORE: |
I, Mayor Mel Lastman, on behalf of Toronto City Council and the 2.5 million people of our great City, do hereby proclaim July 14, 2003 as "Psychiatric Survivor Pride Day" in the City of Toronto and encourage everyone to support psychiatric survivors in their struggle for equal rights. |
